Trick or Treating

Halloween is already here! Granna and Opa stopped by that afternoon to see Trenton in his costume and give him a Halloween present. He loved unwrapping it (Christmas is going to be fun!) and was so excited to have his own Curious George, especially since he was going to be him for Halloween!

We met our next door neighbors and a couple other friends in the park for our trick or treating adventure. It was perfect; all the boys were about the same age. Ironically and without any planning, Rylan was a penguin, Bradley a bear, Trenton was a monkey, and Will was a zoo keeper. It was hilarious! They went together perfectly for our trot around the neighborhood.

Because we started early and only visited a few houses, we were able to enjoy a picnic dinner in the park afterward. Trenton tried some pasta for the first time and loved it! He is definitely getting into more "people" food now, but we still have to be extra cautious and feed him ourselves. When it is left in front of him, he tries to shove it all in his mouth at once or forgets that chewing is required. Eating is tough when you only have seven teeth and are so anxious to put things in your mouth!

My First Kicks!

Granna and Opa bought Trenton his first pair of shoes today! We met up at Coggins and Granna picked these out handsome Pedipeds out. Trenton was really needing them because he has a habit of taking his socks off. With the cooler weather here, shoes were the best solution to keep those feet warm. Since then, they have also become a popular toy--on and off the feet. It's common to find him with his shoe in his mouth, pinching at the velcro, or simply examining them. (Mommy thinks they are cute, too!)

Here are my new shoes!

They help me have traction on the hard woods.

And I can still crawl in them.

My shoes make me so happy!

Two Extremes

Trenton is getting around too well these days, and therefor, it is finally time we baby proof the house! Mommy went around plugging all outlets and Daddy assembled the baby gate for the top of the stairs. Our good friend Jonathan built a block for the bottom of the stairs. We aren't completely finished but we are making progress, and we are relieved to get some of these major hazards taken care of.

Of course the same weekend we are baby proofing the house, Trenton experienced a rough weekend physically. On Friday, he toppled over scraping his chin and biting his tongue. Although there was a good amount of blood for such minor injuries, he was not seriously injured; just scared, I think.

On Sunday morning, he bumped his head on his crib excited that I was about to get him out. Under those circumstances, it never phased him as he smiled his enormous smile. However, he had to go to church with a mark on his forehead.

However, it got way worse and Sunday afternoon we ended up in the ER. We were meeting our friends at church for "Tailgating Treats"--the church's version of trick or treating. We got Trenton out of his car seat, and almost immediately after walking to the back of the car, he started crying this weird type of cry. He never full out wailed, but frequently there was a short painful cry. We knew something was wrong. He just doesn't let out cries like that and that was when we noticed his left arm looked limp. Each time we tried to lift his arm he would whine. It was easy to tell that the arm was the culprit of the pain. Something was definitely wrong and we needed to do something fast.

We took Trenton to Kennestone Hospital, which luckily was a block away. Granna and Opa met us there not knowing what was going on. Come to find out, his elbow was dislocated. The technical term is Nursemaid's Elbow, and it is common in children under the age of five. Apparently their ligaments and joints are not fully developed, and consequently, they can dislocate easily. The doctor immediately diagnosed him and had to pop his elbow back in place. Granna held him for this and I think the nurse purposely tried to distract me, it didn't work. That was a nasty cry that I never want to hear again, but within ten seconds, it was over. It was no time at all before Trenton was using the arm again. Literally, in less than a minute, he put his hand into his mouth--should have know that was going to be his initial move! He had probably missed that so much! Then, it was reaching for Opa--the poor thing couldn't reach for people and he always likes to go to others when he sees them. Then, he was holding water bottles, high fiving--all was back to normal. It was as if nothing had ever happened. Really bizarre!

Although the doctor said not to be surprised if a dislocation happens again, we hope Trenton never has to experience it another time. It was obvious that he was in such discomfort, but amazing how he never broke out into an endless cry. He must have known deep down Mommy and Daddy were going to take care of him--what a sweet feeling! We are proud of our brave, little Trenton!

Good-bye Sunday Growth Pictures

Ok, so the days of taking weekly pictures.--which we already started slacking on a little--are now officially over. It is impossible to keep Trenton on his back for even one quick picture. (Imagine what diaper changes are like these days!) He immediately rolls to his belly and gets into the sitting position. From there it is only a matter of time before he is in the standing position. At least he had fun tossing around the weekly label!

crumble, crumble, crumble......

I can toss it up....

Watch it soar through the air....

Sometimes the best toys aren't even toys at all. :)

I'm going to drop it....like I do everything these days.....

And it is over the edge of the crib! Game over!

Toy Box

Right after Trenton was born, Mommy and Daddy traded out the coffee table for an ottoman chest knowing we were going to have to have a place to hide all Trenton's belongings downstairs in the living room. Well, now that he enjoys pulling up, one of his favorite places is the ottoman (when it's open, it is even better!) He goes crazy pulling out toys and walking around the edge. The best part is that it is cushioned all around and won't close on his fingers. Hooray for the ottoman!

Pumpkin Patch

It was the best weekend to visit the pumpkin patch! We headed up to Gainesville to Kinsey Family Farms in the morning, arriving before the farm was too crowded. Trenton had a great time being pulled in the wagon and touching all the pumpkins. So much was going on around him and he loved every moment of it! We enjoyed riding on the hayride, feeding the fish, picking out pumpkins, watching the animals, and having a picnic with Granna and Opa. We brought home a family of pumpkins with a Daddy one, Mommy one, and little baby one just like our new family. We look forward to making this a tradition!

9 Month Check Up

Today we went to Trenton's 9 month check up. He weighed 18 lbs 9 oz putting him in the 24%, was 28 1/4 inches long putting him in the 50%, and the usual head circumference was in the 75%. Trenton has stuck to those percentages like no other, just dropping a little in the weight category. And, if you've seen him lately, he looks to be a healthy eater so we are not worried. :)

Since shots were not scheduled for this go round, we went ahead and had him receive the first of two flu vaccine. I wondered if the nurse even gave Trenton the shot as I was holding his arms and made funny faces with him. He didn't make a peep and just continued to giggle his sweet little coo. There wasn't any blood either. The nurse even had to comment about the our brave baby boy. We have a little tough guy on our hands!

Handy Men

Trenton's strength is finally obvious, and he is all about pulling himself up every opportunity he can. It's finally time to lower the mattress all the way (and of course Trenton wanted to help his Daddy!)

There's no stopping him from pulling up either because he now realizes how fun it is to stand in his crib. However, pulling up may be easy for him, but getting back down is a bit of a challenge right now. He either starts whining in his crib, which lets us know he is too tired and we go lay him down, or he attempts to get down himself, which usually results in crashing into the side of the crib and we end up going in there to comfort him. We know it is a short phase and then he will get the hang of it so we don't mind.

Happy 9 Month Birthday Trenton!

Trenton turned 9 months today! I don't know what happened, but suddenly he isn't my itsy-bitsy baby anymore. He acts so mature and is doing so much these days. I cherish my bedtime routine where he nestled into me, ready for bed because I don't know how much longer this will last. I'm lucky he still prefers the gentle bouncing and singing before getting laid down. Even more than that, I'm so glad we followed the advice of drowsy, not asleep for going to bed because he is so perfect with it! When he is ready, he is ready and it is such a peaceful time. The thumb goes immediately into his sweet little mouth, he lays his head down on your shoulder, relaxes....he's ready to sleep. A minute later, he's asleep. I love it!

Trenton definitely started moving a lot more this month. His crawling started as the inch worm, worked its way to an army crawl, and now seems to be the real deal. He does like to plop onto his belly most of the time and just play like that instead of crawling and getting into mischief. We are glad about that! I think the alternative is about to happen, though. However, he is just too tuckered out from exerting all that energy crawling that he never makes it to a far destination.

Be on guard when holding him. Trenton leaps towards things he wants all the time and when you least expect it. It is nearly impossible to go into a store with him in your hands and shop. He reaches for items here and there, and then suddenly, may bend backward at anytime. I'm sure we look funny but he loves looking at people (or things) upside down--silly guy! Luckily he does the upside-down thing at the house or I'm sure we'd get a lot of funny looks!

This little guy has elephant ears like his mommy! You can't make a sound entering his room anymore. If he hears anything--a creak of a door, a voice, absolutely anything--he immediately gets on all fours and peers over the bumper, through the rails and stares directly at the door (or you if you are entering!) It's funny but he has definitely learned where people enter his room, and it is making things more challenging for Mommy. I've found myself on multiple occasions hitting the floor because he moves and I fear that he might see me. And if he sees you, he wants out of that crib. A reoccurring situation is.......You hear him start moaning and wiggling because he is cold and check the monitor to notice his blanket is off. You go cover Trenton up in the middle of the night. (And he does this a lot being such a wiggle worm!) And suddenly, you are caught! We'll have to learn how to prevent this because I'm starting to have to feed him in order to get him back to sleep. Ahhh--it always seems to happen at 3:30 just when you are in the dead of sleep.

He has pulled himself up to the standing position on a few occasions, but we still have yet to find him standing in his crib. While doing laundry, I have put him in the standing position in his crib myself so he can watch me load and unload the laundry. He gets a kick out of standing and babbles up a storm. You have to be careful because he can still topple over, especially when so excited to be standing.

One of the best things is that Trenton has understood how to use his two little fingers to pick up food. We started with peas, which he actually prefers to mash between his fingers, although he will a few make it into his mouth. Recently we have moved on to Gerbers' Puffs, which he absolutely loves. Now, anytime he hears you munching, he wants your food thinking they are Puffs. We're constantly having to pull out the Puffs since they somewhat dissolve while still having the crunch feel. Once he really gets the chewing down, we'll move on to table food. It's only been a short period of time of this type of food.

Daddy taught Trenton give five this month. We are still working on waving, Go Dawgs/Roll Tide kickoff chants, and the Tomahawk Chop. I think waving will be next. :)

Happy 9 Month Birthday Trenton!
Standing while holding on.

He loves to pull over his baskets and dig through his toys himself.

Dinner & Baseball

Aunt Jacquleyn and Uncle Brad came over for dinner. Unfortunately, Trenton had just fallen asleep when Uncle Brad arrived. The four of us stayed up watching the Braves v. Giants playoff game, which went 11 innings. Trenton probably heard all the excitement as the Braves came from behind to win, because he woke up in his crib just before midnight. We decided to let him come play for a bit since we were up and Uncle Brad hadn't seen him yet. Trenton thoroughly enjoyed his midnight play session, watching the Braves, and a little late night snack before going back to sleep.

PJ party for Trenton!

Playing in the Yard

We sure love the fall! Trenton is all about playing in the grass. Each afternoon we go outside to walk and play. He likes feeling the textures around him, and grass is perfect for this. When a leaf is near, he immediately crawls toward it. He is able to pick things up with his two fingers now, so we know where the leaf is going--his mouth! Then, of course, he laughs at you when you tell him no about putting it in his mouth. But, he's too cute for you to get mad at. A little taste of nature can't hurt, I suppose. :)

Back in the house, but this was also a cute one. :)
