Virginia Beach

We took a family vacation to Virginia Beach for our fall break and visited our good friends Hank and Katherine. It was perfect timing because Hank was in town, and it was before Katherine started PA school. Also, the Oceana Airshow happened to be going on over the weekend, which was really cool to see. We put Hank's flying headset on Trenton to protect his ears from the loud planes and spent the day on the air strip. It was really neat to see the various air performances but the Blue Angels definitely topped it all. The weather was perfect and Trenton was a great sport!

Trenton made a best friend this trip--Lily, their dog. It was so cute. Trenton has recently acted interested in dogs, but this time, he was constantly searching for Lily. You'd mention "dog" and he'd look at the ground waiting to see when Lily would appear. Lily was the same way. If Trenton was playing on the blanket, she wanted to come lay beside him. She was very concerned with him, especially if he fussed. Even when he'd go to nap, Lily would check on him. They would stare at each other through the mess of the pack 'n play. There was only one problem--Lily is a gator and Trenton is a half bulldog, half crimson tide. I don't think this put a burden on their relationship at least! :)

It was nice because Katherine and Hank's house was a block from the beach. Mommy, Daddy and Trenton enjoyed spending the mornings walking the beach. There were tops of horseshoe crabs. One evening we headed back down to the beach to play around. It was a little too cold to get in the water--minus our feet. Nevertheless, Trenton loved playing on the blanket and watching the ocean. He certainly wished he were playing directly on the sand and would try to crawl to the sand every chance he had. We were frequently placing him back in the middle of the blanket to avoid a mouthful of sand. It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't want to eat it! We also walked the board walk through the main strip in Virginia Beach. This was actually on the Atlantic, where the beach by Hank and Katherine's house was on the Chesapeake Bay. We watched the surfers as we walked to the pier. Daddy really enjoyed this and wished he could get out there and surf himself!

The Cape Henry Trail was in their neighborhood, too. (Talk about a great location for everything!) One day we walked the trail to a breakfast restaurant. We learned quickly that even a happy baby can be noisy in a restaurant. Trenton was babbling up a storm and the tile floors were not helping with the echo. We had a good laugh over it. On the way home, we stopped by the playground for Trenton's first experience. He loved the swing but could barely see over the edge of it. He even tested out the slide, going down in Daddy's lap. It won't be long before he's running around this place!

The Cape Henry Lighthouses at Fort Story where just down the road. Although we couldn't walk to the top because Trenton was a baby, we were able to take a few pictures below.

On our final day, we stopped by Colonial Williamsburg since it was near the airport. Although we didn't have much time to enjoy it, we were able to stretch our legs a bit walking around the historic town.

Walking around Colonial Williamsburg

People were dressed in colonial gear. They let the kids put on costumes. Trenton would have gotten a kick out of that if he were a bit older.

Trenton loved all the attention and people to play with!

Daddy at the landings with Hank. He was literally feet from their landings! Pretty cool!

Trenton was too short to go to the top of the lighthouse--you couldn't even carry a baby--so we just hung out below.

Oh, Mrs. Katherine is soooooo fun!!!

I'm practicing my crawling to get to the sand!

Isn't it funny how sometimes the best toys aren't even toys?

One big (well, small really) happy family.

We loved watching the sunset on the beach.

We saw the Blue Angels perform.

Trenton loves water bottles! (Another cheap toy!)

Lily and Trenton became great pals over our vacation.

Lily, what big teeth you have!

Oh, and that tongue! Trenton couldn't keep his eyes off her!

Daddy reads Katherine cheat sheet for the Florida football team. She has each player, with numbers, and stats printed for reference during the games. She starts the season not knowing anyone and finishes the season with all the trivia! We got a kick out of it! :)
