Bedtime Robots

One of Trenton and Mommy's favorite things was to curl up on the sofa together after bath for a show before bed.  Bennett just joins us now.  I love having my two boys cuddling with me!  When it was finally bedtime both boys dressed in their robot pajamas.  One guess who picked out Bennett's robot swaddle at Baby's R Us.....you got it, Trenton!  Then, Daddy read the boys books in Trenton's big boy bed before turning out the lights and putting Bennett in his crib.  It was a perfect ending to a perfect day!

There's no other place I'd rather be than stuck between these two snuggle puppies!
Hmmmm, what book are you picking out to read, Trenton?
Gotta love swaddles.  Our little Bennett burrito is ready to catch some zzzz.

Just Like His Big Brother

So our initial reaction was that Bennett did not look like his brother Trenton.  Well, boy were we ever wrong!  He looks exactly like his big brother and has mannerism that are similar, too, and it is only the first day home!

From his hairline and dark hair to his complexion and facial features, Bennett and Trenton really resemble each other.  This picture is a good reminder.  Go back to Jan. and Feb. blog posts for Trenton and you will see.
Trenton also did this thumb tuck that Bennett is demonstrating in the picture.

Welcome Home Bennett!

We brought Trenton home in the snow and we brought Bennett home in the rain.  You never know that Georgia weather!  GiGi and PaPaw brought Trenton to the hospital so that we could all go home as a family.  I highly recommend this--it was so special!  It was also nice to show Trenton how he is and always will be involved in Bennett's life.

Daddy brought the car around and Mommy, Bennett and Trenton were wheeled out of Kennestone Hospital.  (Part of their discharge policy.)  We slipped our little man into the enormous carseat, as it always appears to a newborn, and headed home.  During the drive home, I'm not quite sure what Trenton thought of the screaming baby in the backseat with him, but eventually Bennett settled down but Trenton was still just as curious about his backseat partner.  He definitely will be back there keeping us informed.  We'd ask, "Is the pacifier still in his mouth?" and he'd answer.  "Is he sleeping?" and he'd answer.  Trenton is the best big brother and best helper ever!

That evening, Granna and Opa came over with a tub of baby boy clothes that we had stored at their house from Trenton. Although opposite seasons, we were needing some footed pjs/outfits and ones, which Bennett could still use at this stage, and knew some baby boy ones would be in there.  I think they really just wanted an excuse to see their grandchildren!  :)  Who could blame them?

Our first picture as a family of 4!
 GiGi loving on Bennett!
Time to leave.  Trenton got a bit jealous of Bennett getting to ride on my lap (see the bottom lip out?)  Hop on Trenton and come along on the ride with us!  Two legs for two special boys!
Carseat bound!  Trenton gets a little impatient when we have to reposition the straps before driving away.  Takes extra time on these little ones.
Bennett didn't really enjoy his first car ride, even though it was only a 10 min ride home.  He screamed and screamed in the beginning before crashing.
Thank goodness for pacifiers! Not sure if we will keep the paci up, but he definitely liked it in the hospital and it was the best soothing device when milk is not quite yet available.
Daddy gets Bennett out of the car to carry him into the house.
A little bitty newborn in a great big carseat.  I love the sailboat hat--a coworker made it for Bennett!  It was perfect for the cooler June morning.
Our kind neighbors, The Smiths, tied a Baby Boy balloon to our stairs announcing our newest arrival.
Trenton received gifts everyday from Bennett and the family.  He really enjoyed his marble run.
GiGi and PaPaw bought Trenton a trampoline as a big brother gift.  This was fun, too!
Granna and Bennett watch as older brother Trenton coasts around the driveway.
 He trapped Opa!
 Here I come again Opa!
Welcome to our home Bennett!  This is your house!
Big crib for a little guy, but at our house night 1 is the crib. We were just testing it out when we showed Baby Bennett his room.  When night came, did great, sleeping 3 hour increments from the very beginning!  Mommy and Daddy LOVE this!!!

Bennett-Day 2

A 2nd day for Bennett--He met his Uncle Brad and Aunt Jacquelyn and had his circ.  He came back into the room whimpering like a puppy.  It was hard for me to take, and I couldn't bare the diaper changes.  Thank goodness for Daddy! This night was the only tough night he gave us.  After not really nursing all day (which is common after circumcisions) he expected to nurse all night.  Impossible, little fellow, no real milk yet.  Let's just say Bennett didn't sleep a wink in his cradle, but instead in his Mommy's arms.  However, a crucial part is he did eventually sleep and I weaseled my way out of being the human pacifier.

Our little burrito gets some Vitamin D through the windows.  Of course the weather was absolutely gorgeous during our hospital stay!  Lucky Trenton got to spend the days running around with GiGi and PaPaw.

Trenton comes back to visit and is all about holding his little brother.
More importantly, Trenton made sure he introduced Buzz Lightyear to Bennett! We are at a stage that sometimes Trenton is Trenton and other time he is Buzz.  You just have to ask.  :)  But he knows the stances of Buzz, all about his anti-gravity belt, controls to call Star Command, and laser beams.  He has such an imagination!

Bennett Elijah Wagers

I might teach all girls, but I'm born to raise boys!  Bennett Elijah Wagers was born at 11:02 am June 2, 2012 at a healthy 7 lbs 7 oz and was 20 in long.  For having to wait on his arrival for much of May, the delivery was faster than we ever imagined.  We were supposed to report to the hospital at 5 am but we received a phone call at 4:30 stating they were in transition from the night.  We could come in and sit in the waiting room until the room is ready or wait until a second phone call around 6 am.  We chose to wait in the comfort of our house.  So, Kevin and I enjoyed a neighborhood walk in the crisp (mid 50s) morning air.  It was so nice.  Then, Kevin prepared my final meal, eggs and toast.  Shortly after 6 the call came in that a room was ready for us at Kennestone.  Here is the day from there.

7:00 arrival at hospital
8:00 placed in room and begin IV
8:30 start pitocin drip
9:00 Dr. Street breaks my water (and it all starts to get crazy from here!)
9:15 Had already experienced 6 strong contractions and upon announcing to Kevin that I think I'm ready for an epidural and getting called a wuss (I lasted 2 hours without an epidural when my water was broken with Trenton), I tried to tough it out longer.
9:20-Didn't really tough it out much longer.....already into the 3 contraction in the short 5 mins, I insist on the epidural NOW and Kevin calls the nurse
9:30 Nurse happens to be off the floor but trainee comes in and attempts to see if everything is aligned for the epidural as I wait in serious discomfort--let's say it like it is, PAIN!
9:45 Nurse is back but we are waiting for the anesthesiologist to finish up in another room.
10:15 I get the epidural and am 7 cm.  (Typically a person progresses 1 cm/hr but obviously mine was happening much faster.)  Kevin calls my parents.  My mom was planning to be in the room with us for the birth after dropping Trenton off with GiGi and PaPaw who were driving into town that morning.  They drive over to our house to wait for Kevin's parents there.  It is closer to the hospital anyways.  Although I feel worn out from the contractions and just want to rest, the baby isn't taking everything so well.  The heart rate dropped and along with that my blood pressure was low.  (I felt fine--nothing like the first birth when the epidural was too high and I couldn't breathe.)  The nurses shot my IV with ephedrine and were flipping me from side to side trying to get the baby to cooperate.  This often happens when the baby descends at such a rapid pace.
10:45 Pitocin is stopped to take the stress off the baby.  The flipping and monitoring continues, and the nurse decides to check me again.   10 cm--I'm ready to push!  (The 3 final cm took less than 30 mins!)  They immediately call the Dr. Street and Kevin calls my parents who are on the road and tells them they should come straight to the hospital because we're about to have a baby.  There was no making it for my mom.
10:55 We start pushing.  The baby's heart rate drops again.  To stir up contractions faster, the nurses shake my belly.  It works.  Another contraction comes and Dr. Street announces that we need to get this baby out.  I was determined, and.....
11:02 Bennett Elijah Wagers was born.  I later learned that Dr. Street either thought the cord was around the baby's neck or that the baby was sitting on it cutting off oxygen.  Thankfully, he was ok!

Thinking back, I'm glad it happened fast so that I didn't really have time to get scared.  Literally, it was one thing after another.  Once we were upstairs in the recovery room and it was only 1 in the afternoon, Kevin and I looked at each other like what are we supposed to do now for the rest of day.  We weren't prepared for a relaxing afternoon.  Bennett was chillin', we were notifying friends and family of our new bundle of joy and loving every moment!  What a blessing!

Lightning Bugs

Twas the night before the hospital and all through the yard
Trenton was running near and far
In search of some bugs that come with a light
Catching fireflies was such a delight!

Ok, enough of the poetry.  We had a fun evening of dropping Trenton off at Granna and Opa's and teaching Trenton how to catch lightning bugs for his cage.  We knew it was going to be an early morning the next day, so we didn't stay long.  We can't wait to catch more throughout the summer!

Trenton searches the sky for lightning bugs.
He runs through the woods with his own light hoping to spot one.
He got lots for his cage.
Granna helps him.
And the hunt continues....................

June 2nd It Is!!

I just can't believe the time is officially here!  Unsure if I'd go early, each day/night was a waiting game.  Kevin kids around that he had to charge his toothbrush four times in preparation of his hospital bag and kept thinking I'd wake him in the night with, "Honey, it's time!" but it never came.  Sorry to disappoint you, babe!  So somehow, here we stand surpassing all expectations of not even making it to Memorial Day with a scheduled induction tomorrow morning, June 2nd.   From the get-go, I was told by the doctor she would not let me go past 39 wks to avoid a c-section.  The time has come.  I'm 39 wks, and after no change at this week's appointment, the big day is hours away!  Kevin and I will report to the hospital at 5 am tomorrow and will have exciting news to share sometime during the day.   I am thankful for the last few weeks of fetal development and for making it through the entire school year.  Thanks for all your prayers!  Wish us luck as we enter this new and exciting time in our lives!
