Playing

Trenton is all about smiles these days.....morning, noon, and night, he is full of them! It is so fun to play with him and get him to show off his gums and precious little dimple! (Mommy can spend all day doing this!) Now that he is bigger, he really enjoys being propped up on his boppy pillow and seeing what is going on around him. This is a perfect opportunity to make funny faces at each other and get the other to laugh. Trenton is equally as good about making faces that crack Mommy up, although I don't think he realizes it.

Dancing Date Nights = Time with Granna and Opa

For Christmas, Kevin gave me dance lessons. We waited until March to start them. Each Monday afternoon Mommy and Trenton would head over to Granna and Opa's house so that they can watch him while we go on our date night. It was real fun because we get to go on a walk with Opa--luckily it has been a pretty nice March--then Granna would get home to join in the fun. I think the first night there Trenton tried out every piece of baby equipment in the house. Opa called it musical chairs for Trenton. Then, they would meet us up at the dance studio to drop Trenton back off with us or we'd swing back by to get him. I think one lesson they learned really fast how much in advance you have to get ready to leave the house with a newborn. Trenton loves his time with Opa and Granna and I know they do to!

Franklin Baby Friends

Two of Kevin's high school friends also have recent additions to their families. So, on our way back from Indiana we visited them. Honey and Clay Parsons have little Campbell Anne (Trenton's future girlfriend) who is two month younger than Trenton and only a couple weeks old in these pictures. She is absolutely precious and makes Trenton look enormous compared to her little frame. Melanie and Jimmy Weekley have Brooks Burdett who is two months older than Trenton. He is growing up fast, and we see what new "tricks" Trenton will soon be learning. We better enjoy this cuddly stage while it lasts because it looks like it is soon to be over. Sad! It was great to get to share stories with the parents and introduce the little ones. We know they will be seeing each other a lot over the years, so we were glad we had this opportunity to get together!

Road Trip

Trenton took his first road trip to Indiana this week for Great Grandma's 80th birthday party. Since it would have been a 10 hour drive, we decided to break the trip up by stopping in Nashville to spend the night on our way to and from Indiana. Plus, Trenton had just started to develop better sleeping patterns by sleeping over five hours the previous two nights so maybe we could keep this pattern up. (In all honestly, we knew the trip was bound to throw him off; however, we attempted to travel during his sleeping times to encourage his lengthy night sleeping.) It worked pretty well. We left Marietta after Daddy got home from work Wed. night, and had a funny start to the trip. As soon as we had finished loading the car, setting the house alarm, and buckling Trenton into his car seat, a little "explosion" occurred. We hadn't even pulled out of the driveway yet! Nevertheless, perfect timing--we quickly turned off the car, disabled the alarm, and changed his diaper. Can you imagine if we had just started up 75 and had to already pull over to change him?! I think Daddy may have freaked a bit!

We quickly learned the best place to stop along the way was Cracker Barrel. This allowed time for Trenton to stretch his legs while out of his car seat, an atmosphere that stimulating for Trenton, and the best changing area possible! To to it off, they are practically at every exit, too. Sure beats a fast food restaurant or gas station any day!

We also were able to spend time with PaPaw's family while in Indiana for Grandma's 80th (GiGi's side.) It was a great opportunity to introduce the family to Trenton.

We never would have thought a 2 1/2 month old baby could have done so well on a road trip! He slept the entire time and was only awake at our stops. Mommy did crawl into the back once because we thought Trenton was about to get fussy but luckily that never occurred and he drifted off to sleep again. Now it is back into the routine--I'm sure it will take a few days to get accustomed to our typical days but it was great to see everyone!

Too cute because you get a nice look at his tucked thumb.

Don't you just wonder what he is thinking?

Riley was a huge help and would called Trenton "cousin" which was adorable!

Spring Fever

Spring is finally here and our tulip tree out back is in full bloom. Trenton has loved hanging out on our front porch rocking on the rocking chair or swinging on the swing. We have also enjoyed some nice walks together. We love this weather!!!

Can't Keep Him Awake

It was another awesome night of sleeping more than five hours. Way to go, Trenton!!! We are just hoping the sleeping through the night routine has been established! Unfortunately, it was pretty hard to keep him awake during the day today.

Mommy sits Trenton up to tie her shoes and when she stands this is how Trenton is....fallen over
fast asleep!

Mommy couldn't even get his onesie snapped before he was fast asleep again.

One Social Baby

Trenton made some new friends today. They are his dangling toys for his car seat and stroller. Although it says 3+ months, we thought he would love to look at them since he is curious with the world around him already so I got them out of the package early. Before strapping them on the car seat and stroller, I decided to introduce the toys to Trenton. He loved them! He laid on the couch for close to an hour talking with them. He would also reach out for them (you can see his tucked thumb again!) and sometimes knocked them around. Finally he drifted off asleep for his afternoon nap, but before I knew it, his eyes were open again and he was back carrying on a conversation with his friends. Easy entertainment I'm thinking. :)

Sleeping Through the Night!

We finally did it! Trenton slept through the night for the first time last night! What an major accomplishment--for him and Mommy! My friend Jill had suggested making him stay awake more during the day, which is hard for a little baby who enjoys snuggling and napping after ever feeding, but it worked! He woke up from his morning nap after only 45 minutes--perfect! Then, I had to brainstorm idea after idea to keep him awake and I learned the best tool was Mommy's face. We would laugh and smile and talk all the time. His midday nap was the longest because he fell asleep in his car seat so that was close to 2 hours. However, his afternoon nap was only 20 minutes and that was when he fell asleep playing with his toys--just a little catnap. That evening he briefly took a 30 minute nap with Granna while we were at dance lessons but she did a great job of keeping that little guy awake for the majority of the time. He has to sleep some or he'll become cranky. We learned that fast! So, after his 8:30 feeding he was in bed and asleep by 10:00--takes a little while to burp him, change him, and keep him upright for a short bit to prevent spitting up so much. It worked out perfectly! I didn't hear a peep from him until close to 5:00 in the morning when of course he was hungry (starving, I bet!) but of course had to check on him a couple times throughout the night because I was in disbelief.

We are trying our best to stick to a similar schedule today and not to sleep so much during the day. We will see how tonight goes. Hopefully our long wake periods will pay off, and we'll establish a routine of sleeping through the night.

10 Weeks Old

I read somewhere to place colorful artwork or a mirror above the changing station in a nursery. So, we put two brightly colored wooden paintings above Trenton's. One is a cute picture of a hippopotamus and the other matching one is of an elephant. Just recently Trenton noticed Mr. Hippo and turns to look at him frequently. He can't take his eyes off of him (once he remembers he's there!) and immediately his cooing begins. He gets all excited and his legs start kicking harder. It is absolutely adorable! He hasn't quite moved his eyes down the wall toward Mrs. Elephant yet, but I know that will come soon.

Bath Night

Well, we've graduated from the foam pad in the sink to the whale tub. Trenton likes it a lot better, too. We only bathe him every 2-3 nights as the pediatrician recommended so that his skin won't dry out. It still takes both Mommy and Daddy to do the task but we're getting better, and one day, I'm sure we will be able to perform Trenton's bath solo. :)

He looks so much like his Uncle Brad as a baby.

What was that? Did I just pee on my head?

Mommy and Daddy, you should have put this on me long before that!

I love my bath lovie! It keeps me so warm and blocks any unwanted streams.

What a cutie!
