Katherine Visits

Trenton turned 3 weeks this weekend and got to celebrate the big occasion with his "Auntie Katherine" who flew in from Virginia Beach to visit. Katherine was such a big help around the house with Trenton. I couldn't let her leave town without putting her crafty side in action. She was a huge help with Trenton's birth announcements. We are already missing her!

What We've Learned

Trenton does not like being naked, and we learned that fast. He hoots and hollers while we bathe his body, and then when wrapped in the towel for his hair, he loves it. He is started to get better with his baths now that his umbilical cord and circumcision have healed and we can bathe him in the sink. A space heater is helpful too!

Those hands love to be near his face. Even when swaddled tightly, Houdini can get his little hands out. Daddy is the master swaddler so we rely on him most of the time.

Boys have a mighty pee stream. I think he's soaked everything in the house at least once and he's only two and a half weeks old! We've tried a pee-pee tepee but that just soaked his back, we try to cover it with a towel but it seems to always fall off while you're placing a new diaper under him, we've tried to just be quick with it but it is impossible with his squirmy legs....we're are just going to have to get better at this!

We are sure there is a lot more to be learned from our handsome little man, so this is to be continued.....

Poor little guy! This was his first bath at home. I can't watch him when he's like this! Look at that grip! He looks like he is holding on for dear life!

Calmer now that he is wrapped in a dry towel.

I think he knows what is coming.

Daddy is so gentle, too.

2 Weeks Old

We can't believe two weeks have already gone by! It feels like we just came home from the hospital. Although he probably is only 7 pounds now, Little Trenton is growing. He has the strongest neck and likes to pull back and stretch all the time. When his belly is full, he looks like ET with his skinny body and round belly--it is just adorable! We just passed his actual birth date and I can't imagine still being pregnant! Boy am I glad we induced early!

Guess what time it is? Trenton knows!

Daddy gets the fun job. Two weeks worth of diapers (well, only from the diaper genie in his nursery....no telling how many we actually went through in two weeks!) We just learned how to empty it. :)

Granna's Last Day

Well, today Trenton had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Clements. As we waited in the waiting room (Mommy, Granna, and Opa) we noticed how many Moms walked in with three kids and here we sat one kid to three adults. Interesting situation. When we went back, we learned how great Trenton had been doing. Not only had he grown another quarter of an inch, but he managed to pull his weight up to 6 pounds 11 ounces in the matter of four days! That's a gain of nearly two ounces a day! Way to go, Trenton! Dr. Clements was very impressed, as was the whole family! We don't even have to go back for his second week appointment since he was already about at his birth weight.

Unfortunately all good things have to come to an end. We were very thankful to have my mom staying with us for the past week to help us get settled with our newborn baby. She was cooking, cleaning, rocking, burping, running errands....you name it, pretty much anything but the nursing! This allowed me to heal a bit and Kevin to stay on top of his work. Trenton learned her voice fast and gained the title of Granna's "handsome little man."
Trenton made the gains and received another A+ report from Dr. Clements!

Daddy and Mommy on Their Own

Daddy and Mommy sent our "reinforcements" home for our first trial run of having Trenton all to ourselves last night. Daddy didn't have work the next day so it was fine if he was having to stay up more than usual helping with Trenton. Well, it was another successful night of sleeping for Trenton! Daddy wasn't even needed. Mommy would just feed Trenton and put him back to bed. He was great!

Daddy was able to spend a full day with Trenton, and Daddy says they bonded over football. Uncle Ryan had sent us snuggies for our college teams so Daddy felt his was like Trenton's swaddle and had to wear it while holding him. Pretty funny! Our good friends Jessica and Chris stopped over to meet Trenton.

Finalizing the Nursery

Daddy had to go to work today but Opa came over to help around the house. There were still a few things left to hang in the nursery. We were waiting, of course, to learn if we were having a boy or a girl for the name and a couple other pieces of decor. Daddy got home in the afternoon and could help with the last of the tasks.

In the morning, some of Mommy's friends stopped by to see the new addition to the family. Later, Aunt Suzy and GiGi happened to be in town visiting friends for the long weekend, so they were able to stop by. Trenton enjoyed seeing GiGi again and meeting his aunt for the first time!

Sleeping!

Trenton just had his third night at home. The first two were a bit rough because he was always wanting to be held in order to sleep. Who can blame him? He's used to that cozy, warm womb! Luckily since Granna has been with us, Mommy and Granna could divvy out the shifts throughout the night. (Daddy would take the one from 8-11 while we would catch some zzz's, but we didn't have him in the late night rotation because work was really busy this time of year.) Slowly, we would try to extend his "crib" sessions from 15 minutes to 30 and so on. It worked but never lasted over an hour.

So now suddenly things have changed....and for the better! We don't know if it was the fact that my milk was in or that we swapped to a fleece swaddle sleep sack instead of blankets, but something did the trick. Trenton was sleeping a full three hours and then we had to wake him up (doc's orders) to feed him. We were having to fatten this boy up! The trouble was he didn't want to wake. It took close to 45 minutes each nursing session to get this little fella up enough to nurse. We felt so mean stripping him naked, flicking his feet, wiping him down with a cold wash cloth, but something had to be done! He caught on fast.

A+ From Dr. Clements

We had our first pediatrician appointment today, and it was Trenton's first "out of house" experience. Leave it to a new mom, but I almost forgot a diaper bag! Granna and I were out the door with little Trenton and it dawned on me that I didn't just need a purse anymore. So I grabbed diapers and wipes. What else goes in that thing? I knew more was needed but what so I just started throwing random baby things in there. It was full before you knew it. I'll never make that mistake again!

Trenton had dropped a little more weight, but he was only 4 days old so that is expected. He is down to 6 pounds 3 ounces. He is still having plenty of wet diapers...we were going through about 10 a day at this point which was a good sign. Lucky for him (but not so much for Mommy!), my milk came in today so we're told to feed him regularly and come back next week. Trenton had grown a quarter of an inch and all other exams were fine. He received an A+ from Dr. Clements!

No One Can Get Enough

No one can get enough of Trenton right now! Granna is staying at our house for the first week to help us get adjusted to a newborn. Opa stops over after work each afternoon to see his grandson. Daddy gets time with Trenton in the evenings when he's home from work.

Let's Go Home!

It was time for Trenton to go home! He had dropped from 6 pounds 12 ounces to 6 pounds 7 ounces, which is normal at the time of discharge. Daddy had to take two trips to the car to load things up. Who knows how we packed so much for the hospital! Trenton's newborn go home outfit was enormous on him and his little feet barely went into the leg holes. Snow and ice were still on the ground from last week, and it was absolutely freezing outside. We tried to bundle Trenton up in his winter fleece bodysuit but that was even bigger, and therefore, impossible to use with the car seat. The car seat....that was another adventure. We needed some Georgia Tech grads to help us! Opa, Granna, Kevin and I could not figure out how to adjust the straps safely around little Trenton. He was just so tiny! The parking attendant came to the rescue. Poor little Trenton looked hilarious as we tried our best to snugly get the harness around him. The bulky clothes didn't help one bit!

We caravanned home with Opa and Granna to introduce Trenton to his new house. GiGi and PaPaw and Opa and Granna had displayed ribbons and balloons outside the house, which was fun to come home to. A new little boy was welcomed into Gardenside!

Man, look at that face! Who could blame him after the adventure to get him in the car seat.

Trenton's First Real Day

Trenton's first night's sleep was pretty good. He never cried but we learned fast that we had a cooing baby. He is fully of noises which we were not used to. Daddy, the heavy sleeper he is, slept through all of it, but Mommy, the light sleeper, was up to it all. Let's just say this is something we are going to have to get accustomed to!

It was a big first day! Daddy was in complete awe of his precious little boy, and it was so neat to see their bond. Dr. Matthews from our church stopped by in the morning to congratulate our family. Trenton passed his hearing test, and the pediatrician saw him for the first time. All was well there, too. Then, that night Trenton received the big "c" to top everything. Through it all, several family and friends stopped by to welcome our little bundle of joy to the world.

Welcome Trenton Luke Wagers!

After an eventful day of laboring, Trenton Luke Wagers was welcomed into the world at 7:21 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2010. He was 6 lbs. 12 oz. measuring 19 in. long. The delivery itself was a breeze lasting only twenty minutes. Kevin and I were thankful our moms could be in the delivery room with us to witness this special moment. The rest of the family anxiously awaited the news from the waiting room, and Kevin was overjoyed to announce that a precious baby boy had been born into the family.
Immediately the Daddy part of Kevin took control. Trenton's first diaper change was performed by Daddy (and it was the first time Daddy had ever changed a diaper, too!) Practically every diaper at the hospital was changed by Daddy which helped me out a lot.

We couldn't believe the miracle that had just become such a significant part of our lives. Parenthood was just beginning, and we were looking forward to the road ahead!
